Our Story

The vineyards and wines “Encostas de Estremoz” founded and directed by José Castro Duarte and his wife, Joana, assisted by their great friend and leading Portuguese winemaker, Miguel Reis Catarino.

All wines are produced at Quinta da Esperança vineyards in Estremoz, where new viticulture techniques are used alongside traditional vineyard practices. Our identity is founded on a commitment to introduce innovative grape-growing and winemaking know-how while retaining a strong sense of our national traditions. We are proud of our unique Portuguese grape varieties and the contribution they can make to the international world of wine.

D.Joana’s wines first came to market in 2001 with Encostas de Estremoz Red, and Encostas de Estremoz white.
